Through our partnership with the St. Petersburg Police Department and a grant funded by the Juvenile Welfare Board, PAL is proud to offer truancy intervention services at our onsite truancy center—South County Truancy Interdiction Center (SCTIC). Through this truancy program, we are able to not only help children, but also to increase the fight against daytime crime. Communities that adopt an active truancy program typically see a 35 percent reduction in daytime crime.

Local law enforcement officers transport approximately 300 truant youth to PALSP every year. Our staff assists students in truly addressing the barriers that prevent them from succeeding. Every day, approximately 6,000 students drop out of school in the United States, creating a financial burden of approximately $329 billion a year in unrealized tax revenue while increasing demands on social services. Seventy-five percent of prison inmates are high school dropouts.

The St. Petersburg Community is fortunate to have access to a truancy program that addresses the in-depth needs of students and their families.
